If you’ve been following me for a while then you already know that when I go on vacation, so do Zabeth and Roya. I recently returned from a week in Mexico, which means I had to add to my self-indulgent Zaya travel series:

Recommendations: my beach reads

Sitting under a beach umbrella reading is my favourite thing to do on a beach vacation. On this trip I devoured two titles, both of which I can’t stop recommending to everyone who will listen!

• How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix — this book wasn’t what I expected, but in the very best way. How to Sell a Haunted House is genuinely creepy and heartbreaking all at once, with chilling twists and a deeply satisfying ending. The paranormal exploration of familial trauma felt reminiscent of director Mike Flanagan’s work. Highly recommended to anyone who loves a good ol’ fashioned ghost story.

• Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree — I’m ashamed that it took me this long to get on the Legends & Lates bandwagon, but better late than never, right? This book is an absolute joy. I didn’t expect to enjoy a story with such low stakes, but I was immediately invested in (and in love with) Viv. I brought a library copy with me on vacation, which I quickly replaced with one of my own (plus the prequel, Bookshops & Bonedust) as soon as I got home.
