The Star And The Ocean has officially broken one million reads on Wattpad!
When I started publishing my first novel, The Star And The Ocean on Wattpad back in 2016, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. With the story itself being a bit of a genre-outlier, I wasn’t sure if there’d be an audience for it. All I knew for sure was that it was a story I needed to tell; if anyone cared to read it, that would be a delightful bonus.
No one was more surprised than me when the book went on to win a Watty Award in 2017 — a global writing competition that saw more than 180,000 entries that year. Since then, this scrappy little queer-romantic-fantasy-adventure book of my heart has gone on to spawn two sequels, connected me with readers and new friends from around the world, and launched the writing career I have today. I owe a lot to May and Em, and I owe just as much to the people who, as of yesterday, helped this story surpass one million reads.
I often wondered if The Star And The Ocean would ever hit the coveted 1M. As much as I hoped for it, I never let that hope get away from me. If you know anything about Wattpad, then you probably already know what kind of stories perform best there. Bad boys, billionaires, and werewolves are always in fashion on Wattpad (the raunchier, the better) and TSATO is… well, it doesn’t quite fit the mold. So, the fact that this story of magic, adventure, found family, and two girls falling in love managed to resonate so deeply with so many people is a victory in and of itself.

Amazing to have just discovered this beautiful book, only to find that it recently hit 1 million reads and has a giveaway ending on my birthday. I cannot wait to dive into the other books and learn more about May and Em. Thanks for these characters and their stories!
