Be honest: when you hand your work over to someone to review, are you secretly hoping that the exchange will play out like the notorious “No notes” scene in New Girl? First, the reviewer will lay their eyes upon your masterpiece and declare…
And then, when you ask them for feedback, they insist…
Sigh. Wouldn’t that be nice? Unfortunately, that’s not really how it works.
When you’re a creator, receiving even the most well-intentioned feedback on your work can be excruciating. We pour so much of ourselves into our work that it’s hard not to take critiques personally. But whether we like it or not, dealing with feedback comes with the territory, so you owe it to yourself to learn how to receive and process it without letting it decimate your sense of self worth.
The good news? The less resistant you are to receiving and handling feedback the stronger you’ll be at your craft.
